James Holden is amazing. The album is great from start to finish. This CD has been in heavy rotation in my CD player and at work. I've even had people who don't like this type of music make great comments about the album. The album puts you in some kind of ambient mood. You are taken from your living room or your car, right to the dance floor with these tracks. For as young as James is you would think he has been mixing longer than his other peers. This guy is just getting started and I can't wait to see what comes out next. To this day I still listen to his Nothing Remix. Its among one of the greatest songs ever. I highly recommend this album to everyone. Buy it, pop it in, and keep it playing into the early morning for an experience that will have you coming back for more.

After hearing "Horizons" and "Nothing" from James Holden, I knew that I had to get my hands on everything this dj had to offer. From the essential mixes on Radio One to "Fear of a Silver Planet", this ex-bedroom dj turned Sasha protege has never failed to impress me with his innovative beats and off-the-beaten-path track selection. While James Holden is notorious for using digital effects and Pro Tools to hone his sets, that does nothing IMO to detract from his genius and skill as a DJ.

Balance 005 features everything that sums up Holden as a dj, from the soothing vocals, flawless mixing, and the deep vibrating bass sound which is prevalent in all of his productions and remixes. The first disc features plenty of vocal tracks including MFA's "The Difference it Makes", Avus' "Real", Luke Chable's PQM "While you are Sleeping", and my personal favorite featuring the best female vocals "Do what you want". Deep dark beats and loops from Umek and Nathan Fake also contribute to make this cd a dark progressive masterpiece.

The second disc features breaks and electronica with tunes from FC Kahuna, Meta.93, and Avus among others which doesn't fail to let-down after the first cd.

From my perspective this is one of the best release of 2004 to date and arguably ranks up with Sasha GU:Ibiza as one of the best progressive trance sets ever.
